Helping Your Nervous System Back to Safety
If you’re looking for Somatic Experiencing, our peaceful forest-based clinic in Anmore offers a gentle, body-based approach to healing developmental trauma, complex PTSD, anxiety, burnout, chronic stress, and nervous system dysregulation.
Developed by Dr. Peter Levine, Somatic Experiencing® (SE™) is an evidence-informed therapeutic approach based on the understanding that overwhelming experiences can become “stuck” within the nervous system, leaving us feeling anxious, disconnected, overwhelmed, shut down, or caught in patterns that no longer serve us.
Rather than focusing only on thoughts or memories, Somatic Experiencing works with the body’s natural responses to stress and trauma. Instead of asking you to relive painful experiences or recount every detail of your past, it helps you notice and work with the sensations, impulses, and responses already present in your body. Through this gentle process, your nervous system gradually learns that it is safe to release survival patterns that were once necessary but are no longer needed.
Many people discover Somatic Experiencing after years of traditional talk therapy because they understand why they feel the way they do, yet still experience anxiety, hypervigilance, emotional reactivity, chronic tension, or shutdown. As your capacity for regulation grows, many people experience greater resilience, emotional flexibility, and a deeper sense of safety and connection with themselves.
Whether you’re healing from trauma, navigating chronic stress, or simply longing to feel more grounded in your daily life, Somatic Experiencing supports your body’s innate capacity to heal.
What it Does
Somatic Experiencing helps restore balance to the nervous system by supporting your body’s natural capacity to heal from the effects of trauma and chronic stress. Every person’s experience is unique, but many clients notice:
- Greater nervous system regulation and resilience
- Reduced anxiety, hypervigilance, and emotional overwhelm
- Increased capacity to manage stress and life’s challenges
- Greater awareness of the connection between mind and body
- Relief from persistent fight, flight, freeze, or shutdown patterns
- Improved emotional flexibility and self-regulation
- Increased trust in yourself, your instincts, and your body’s signals
- A deeper sense of calm, grounding, safety, and connection
What to Expect at BOOM Healing
Somatic Experiencing sessions at BOOM Healing are collaborative, gentle, and guided at a pace that feels safe for your nervous system. There is no expectation to tell your whole story or revisit traumatic memories before you are ready.
Instead, sessions begin by building safety and developing greater awareness of your body’s signals and natural capacity for regulation.
Throughout each session, you may be invited to notice physical sensations, emotions, breathing, movement, or other internal experiences while remaining connected to the present moment. Your practitioner will guide this process with curiosity and care, helping you explore your experience without becoming overwhelmed. The goal is not to push through difficult experiences, but to help your nervous system gradually experience greater flexibility, regulation, and freedom.
Located within BOOM Healing’s peaceful forest setting in Anmore, the environment naturally complements this work. Surrounded by nature, many clients notice themselves beginning to slow down and settle before their session even begins. It provides a calm, grounding space where healing can unfold with curiosity, presence, and compassion.
About Your Practitioner
Somatic Experiencing sessions at BOOM Healing are offered by Hunter Elyse MacInnes.
Hunter is a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC), Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC), and Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP). Hunter specializes in developmental trauma, complex PTSD, attachment wounds, nervous system dysregulation, and helping adults who have gained insight through traditional therapy but continue to feel stuck in recurring emotional, relational, or physiological patterns.
Hunter’s approach is warm, collaborative, and rooted in the belief that lasting healing happens through the nervous system, not just through insight. By integrating Somatic Experiencing with relational psychotherapy, she helps clients build greater regulation, reconnect with themselves, and create meaningful, lasting change that extends well beyond the therapy room.
